Los Bobalistas

The Bobal variety is the origin of our vineyards. It is a variety rooted in our history, located and native to the border between the provinces of Cuenca, Albacete and the Valencian Community and clearly the undisputed protagonist of our Denomination of Origin, Ribera del Júcar.

Agronomically, it is an exceptional variety, with an unequalled capacity to adapt to Mediterranean and warm continental climates, capable of successfully combating the extreme droughts that sometimes beset our territory and a fantastic response in almost any type of soil. Such is its capacity for resistance that great viticulture scholars such as García de los Salmones (1914) or Janini (1922) describe it as “a vine of great size and robustness […] this vine is so robust in these regions that many winegrowers consider that it naturally defends itself against the phylloxera plague”, highlighting its natural capacity for outstanding resistance to many pests and diseases, which makes it the perfect variety for organic cultivation in our territory.

It produces wines with a very lively colour, although sometimes not very stable over time, which is why we can find wines with different intensity of colour. The wines have a great aromatic intensity of red fruits, cherries, floral and balsamic background. In the mouth, the common note is a very balanced wine with a very good acidity and a controlled alcohol content, parameters that are achieved with a perfect maturity given the adaptation of the Bobal grape to our territory.

It is a very versatile variety that allows the production of fantastic still wines as well as sparkling wines, and from great red wines for ageing to young wines that stand out for their great freshness, such as the pale-toned Rosés and the Blanc de Noir.
